Andrea Blanar
Born in Hungary and having resided in numerous countries: Autria, Belgium, Dominican Republic and Japan Andrea Blanar graduated Magna Cum Laudae from Concordia University in Montreal in 1978 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Andrea Blanar discovered Atlantic Canada in the early 1990’s. She has been making a yearly pilgrimage to New Brunswick, in particular, the Bay of Fundy every summer ever since. She works and lives in her studio, a converted United church, painting images of the surrounding bay marshes and mudflats.
Her harmonious landscapes show a reverence for East Coast marshes where water meets land.Andrea’s paintings have a Baroque quality, exhibiting “…views in which the viewer is swept back through deep space, sometimes through a meandering river, sometimes through overlapping, horizontal bands of landscape, toward a pale, distant sky in which the warm, pinkish glow of evening or the ivory hue of morning, calls to mind the golden backdrops used in Byzantine icons. These are quiet, meditative images in which the overwhelming feeling is of stillness and solitude…” -Elaine Hujer, Ass’t Curator, Art Gallery of Ontario
Andrea Blanar has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries including: Saint John, Montreal, Quebec City, Hamilton, Toronto, New York and France. Several of her paintings are also featured in many public and corporate collections.
“Deep down inside of us sleeps a longing to live nature as Andrea Blanar paints it”
-Collette Bourgoin, Director/Curator, Restigouche Gallery, Campbellton
