Anna Torma
Born in Tarnaors, Hungary, Anna Torma received her degree in Textiles from the Hungarian University of Applied Arts in 1979.
In her twenty-five years of professional fibre art practice, Anna has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally in Europe, North America and Japan, including Thorough the Needle’s Eye:Owens Art Gallery 2004; Anna Torma: Embroideries 2001-2002,Vigado Gallery, Budapest, Hungary 2002; Enchanted Threads,Burlington Arts Centre, 2000; Notes and Visions: The embroideries of Anna Torma, John Michael Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan, WI, USA 1996.
She has also received numerous grants and awards, most recently a Canada Council A Grant, New Works Residency,Banff, Alberta,and Chalmers Art Fellowship in Visual Art, from Ontario Art Council in 2002. In 2008, she was a finalist for the Strathbutler Award.
Anna Torma immigrated to Canada with her family in 1988. Now she lives and works in Baie Verte, New Brunswick.
